The RIP Protocol

A vector distance interior gateway protocol. The distance reflects the number of routers to be passed when sending data to a given network.

Each router initially contains only its neighbouring routers with a metric (distance) of 0 to each of them.

Every 30 seconds, each router broadcasts its full distance vector to each of its directly connected networks.
