Application Servers

Application servers are used to supply a more high-level environment for the programmer. they tend to support persistent storage, easy HTML page generation (often using templates), easy database access and similar features.

Two free application servers that are commonly used are Zope and Mason.

There are also various commercial application servers, such as IBM's WebSphere, BEA's WebLogics, etc.
