Maybe you don't need SAMBA
You don't need SAMBA, if:
- You don't have a local network
- You only want to run a Linux printer server (run cups,
and let
windows connect to it as a UNIX-style printer server).
- You want to share files only between Linux/UNIX machines (use
NFS).
- You want the ability to download files from the Linux server to
the windows client (use an FTP server which is much faster).
Browsing the local network with KDE
KDE users can use konqueror to
browse the local network without hassle. Make sure the smb ioslave for
KDE is installed in your distribution, and browse
via konqueror to smb:/, and viola! The local
network is shown.
