Configuring Network Devices

Network devices are configured using the 'ifconfig' command.

Each such device has at least these configurable parameters:

IP Address
Netmask
Broadcast address
Device status (up/down).

When configuring a device, usually a route entry will be automatically added to the routing table, that routes all data destined to that device's network, via that device.
