Debugging Connectivity

Connectivity problems arise then interfaces go down, route tables have invalid contents, machines crash and so on.

Debugging them requires understanding the complete manner in which communications is performed.

In our next examples, we assume usage of IP addresses only. Usage of host names is more complicated, and will be discussed later.

We will discuss both LAN connections, as well as dial-up connections.
