IDEs - Integrated Development Environments IDE - a set of tools providing a complete environment for source code editing, compilation, debugging, source control, etc. Linux now has a set of IDEs available. Starting with Emacs/XEmacs, up to commercial IDEs, such as Sniff+, CodeForge, etc. On the open-source side, Kdevelop has lately become a usable IDE, and is quite recommended for IDE users. However, an IDE is just the tip of the iceberg. Software development tools cover much more then just IDEs.
