Menus And Toolbars

It is customary to place a menu bar with menus on windows that remain active for extended periods of time.

The menus should be split in a logical manner, so users can find where each menu item is. Having keyboard shortcuts for commonly used operations is also considered a good thing.

The most commonly used operations are often available also via a toolbar. Make sure its icons make some sense, and are distinguishable enough. Add tool tips - they are used when the user is new to the application, and are often ignored later on.
