A Network Sniffer Saves the Day

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, don't you know?

Windows' VPN Client works. pptp doesn't. therefore, pptp will have to adapt. 

We proceed to get network traces from both linux and windows, using
the fabulous ethereal (http://www.ethereal.com/) network sniffer.

After staring at the traces for a few hours, we identify places where
linux sends different packets than windows. We hack pptp to send the
exact same packets. 

Using this technique we manage to make headway in the connection
process, but still no successful connection.
