A look at other open source operating systems. An introduction to *BSD". Ido Barnea.

Abstract

Besides Linux, other unix open source operating systems exist. The most popular one being FreeBSD, and others are NetBSD, OpenBSD and Apple's Darwin. We will look shortly at the different goals each of these systems is trying to achieve, and try to understand why each of them exists. Then we will focus on FreeBSD, explore its basic components, its main features, and the people behind it.
